Basically, I haven’t thought it over much. It’s basically about a teenage girl who gets thrown into a futuristic situation. I’m basically writing as i go which may not be the best strategy. I wanna hear your honest take on it so far. Be sure to include any way you think i could make it better
thanks

I used to sneak out at night. I used to examine the stars and nobody knew. And I often ran past my limits. I wanted to feel my limbs ache and the blood pulse through my veins. I needed to be reminded that I was still human. My very species had been purged of its understanding of the universe. There was very little we were told of the outside anymore.
I pushed myself past my limits. What were limits really? For so long I had been idolized. Melanie Heart of Earth had no limits. She could do everything. At least, that’s what they had told me. Yet, they searched me constantly. I was constantly monitored. For flaws. So, I was imperfect. I had limits.
I ran so far from the base that I reached the Outskirts. Homes stood proudly, despite the names they had been deemed. They lived happily despite their reputations. Being able to do such a thing was a foreign concept. Some had lights on and some were dark. Some had few windows and some had many. Some stood 2 or 3 stories whereas some looked to be 2 room houses. So different. All had a personality it seemed.
A V-58 Drone flew somewhere above me. I was so used to its sound. The annoying whirring that I recognized from my years as an Apprentice. They had me working on V-58 engines in need of repair, everyday I had to ear the whirring. I ran faster into the night, challenging the Drone to follow me, to race me. It didn’t see me. I was too well trained. A master in the art of stealth and deceit.
Good Melanie and Bad Melanie fought in my head. Good Melanie shouldn’t be out this late. The curfew must be obeyed. Imagine the trouble if the Night Watchmen took a round through the barracks! No Melanie asleep soundly in her cot.
Bad Melanie debated. I’m tired of being the star pupil. Let them find that I’m gone. Let them come looking for me. Let me get written a Court Marshall for sneaking out. It’d be the first.
I slipped through the gates the same way I had come. Sweat drenched my sleepwear. All was silent. All asleep. All well-behaved. Except for me. The Guardhouse stood tall and dark on the far side of the gates. It didn’t hold the same dominance over me as it had when they first brought me here. I kicked at the gravel below me, boldly sending it whizzing forward. The Building of Re-Correction stood on the left of the Academy entrance. “The place where the naughty little boys and girls are punished”, they had smiled and told us when my pod first arrived here.
I hurried past the Garage, the schoolhouse, the Command Center, the Training facility, and the Armory. All places of great memories and great lies. The night was still and I moved through it silently and easily. The moon guided my path through the dark halls of the barracks until I made it to my room. I looked upon the heads of all my fellow pupils tucked soundly in their cots. Not one head stirred. Not one tossed and turned with the nightmares like I did every night. I had not one friend among those fifty cots. They all resented me for achieving so much when they had achieved so little. I tip toed among those beds and to mine. I climbed into my retreat of covers and dreamed of the times before this world had been brought upon me.

“She has potential that much is certain. The only question remaining is The Rule.”
“I’m sure we can pull some strings.”
“Well, let’s hope so.”

Their voices echoed down the hallways. They assumed I couldn’t hear them. They assumed I was too naïve to understand any of this. All I wanted was to be home. The room was cold and I had wires hooked up to me that stung when I moved. I heard footsteps down the hall. The man who had stuck these wires to me appeared in the doorway. He looked to be in his mid twenties and was clean shaven and had blonde shiny hair. He wore shiny spectacles that were perfectly circular. He looked way too young to already have reached the rank of Captain. It took at least 10 years just to finish apprenticeship. He must be quite smart. “Well, Melanie, you may leave now. Your results were quite superior.” he said with a smile. “What exactly did I do well?” I asked. I was very confused. A daze had come over me and my memory of the past few minutes was completely blurry. “The vaccine must still be in effect. That’s rather odd.” He scrunched his nose and pulled a notepad out of his pocket. He scribbled something down vigorously before turning back to me. “You completed a training simulation, and did it rather well.” That didn’t seem so extraordinary to me. I had completed many training simulations back at the School for the Young. He removed the wires
wow.. i just realized that yahoo answers has a "character limit" and like half of what i wrote didn’t even fit.

sorry for the abrupt ending
that’s not really how i stopped

How and where can I find a job as a Medical Assistant with no experience?
I have completed the training for Medical Assistant. However, everyone wants someone with 2 years experience. I don’t have any experience, but I really need a job. What can I do now to get a good job?
1 day ago – 3 days left to answer.
Additional Details
One other problem I am having is when I type the words: "Medical Assistant" into a search engine or a job site, they keep showing me listings for Doctor, Nurse, X-ray Tech., etc.
I don’t want to see any listings for those jobs, because I am not trained to do them. They are just a waste of my time. How can I get the job sites to show me only the jobs for Medical Assistant and not any of the other junk that I don’t want to see?

I have used Yahoo and Google search engines, but to no avail. You’d think with the millions of kids into trains, that some company out there would be producing these! Please only answer if you know specifically and definitely of a company that I can buy these from! Thanks for any help I can get!

The book is fromm the 1980s/90s and it is the story of ‘the little engine that could’ but with a different title. All i can remember about it is that the train in the story is called Puffing Billy (that may also be the title) ive searched everywhere on the internet and although i have found numerous bookes called the little engine that could i cant find the Puffing Billy version. Is there anyone who also knows of this book or can help point me in the right direction?

I realize it’s a bit short, shorter than any normal short story, and it’s a tad under described, but it’s 3 a.m. and I have a massive headache (plus this is due tomorrow).
So please tell me what you think!

"On a small desolate beach, as the morning clouds begin to form, stands a young girl named Catherine. There is no reason why she is standing there, she just is.
Her gaze veers and attaches to the moon. An odd peculiar place and time for such a thing, and a sight it was too. A large mass of vivid and blinding light, which could be compared to an orb, lays atop the ocean peak as if it were here, solid and materialized in form.
Though it is early morning, when the birds start to cheep and chatter, the moon suggests otherwise. Catherine could predict it would be here at noon, it just had little sign of departure.
Slowly, she withdrew her eyes and began walking through the moist sand. Occasionally, the ocean would come up to lightly embrace the sand and would soak Catherine’s socks, much to her disdain. But this was the least of her worries, she was looking for something, something lost.
Carefully searching through the land she spotted something down by the rocks. Catherine ran towards the thing that had captured her attention and came to a complete halt once she had arrived.
Emerged from within the sand, limp, were a pair of arms. The hands appeared to be holding a box, an aged and worn box.
Catherine kneeled down on one knee to observe the caddy, when suddenly the arms lifted the box up to Catherine. Gingerly, she took hold of the item and the arms fell back down to the ground with a thud.
Catherine walked away and raised the lid. Inside, the box was filled with sand. She tilted it a little and let the grains pour out. Now fully in sight, lay five tiny objects.
One was a small transparent marble, a golden locket, a copper coin, a shell and a piece of aged paper.
Catherine pocketed all five and left the box.
Instantly the smell of oil hung in the air. Catherine stared back towards the moon and heard a faint “chink-chink-chink” of what sounded like tracks in the water. The din of roaring thunder erupted throughout as well as a light ticking.
The clouds in the sky started to shape and reform, moving to surround the orb of the light that was the moon. Suddenly, a brighter and much clearer light shown from within the middle of the moon. A slight piercing sound of a steam whistle arose and layered with every other noise, making it almost deafening. A stain of scarlet red appeared inside the light and was gaining color as the sounds grew more immense. The echo of voices could now be heard. Catherine stood there dumbfounded at this sudden intrusion of peace. The image of red transformed into a bulky engine and was steadily making it’s way towards Catherine. As the engine was riding through, the tracks shook and vibrated the atmosphere. The air grew colder and she could feel the sting of wind upon her cheeks.
Another sharp whistle blew, except louder this time, and caused Catherine to jump. Goosebumps slowly etched their way up her arm, as did the hairs.
The engine was more apparent now, the front only a few meters away. The headlight was blinding, erasing all other sight.
A vast surge of wind came billowing into Catherine as the train approached. Only inches away, Catherine shut her eyes. As fast as it had come, the train did not collide with her but flew right past.
Catherine now stood in the middle of a crowd outside, as a train screeched to a stop. People moved and bustled past, trying to gain entry.
Residing by her feet was a worn suitcase. Confused, she picked it up and made her way towards the train. Once inside and in a cabin, Catherine sat down and peered out the window. The whistle blew as the engine began to start.
Catherine’s thoughts ran back to her daydream of the beach as she gazed at the passing trees. Almost absentmindedly, she placed her hand inside her pocket and felt something. Whatever it was, felt cold and solid, even had some odd grainy texture.
With a slight smile, she pulled five items out and laid them in her palm.
The marble, the coin, the locket, a shell and a piece of aged paper.
Her hand enclosed the diminutive trinkets as she went back to staring out the window."

Train of Life

Some folks ride the train of life

Looking out the rear,

Watching miles of life roll by,

And marking every year.

They sit in sad remembrance,

Of wasted days gone by,

And curse their life for what it was,

And hang their head and cry.

But I don’t concern myself with that,

I took a different vent,

I look forward to what life holds,

And not what has been spent.

So strap me to the engine,

As securely as I can be,

I want to be out on the front,

To see what I can see.

I want to feel the winds of change,

Blowing in my face,

I want to see what life unfolds,

As I move from place to place.

I want to see what’s coming up,

Not looking at the past,

Life’s too short for yesterdays,

It moves along too fast.

So if the ride gets bumpy,

While you are looking back,

Go up front, and you may find,

Your life has jumped the track.

It’s all right to remember,

That’s part of history,

But up front’s where it’s happening,

There’s so much mystery.

The enjoyment of living,

Is not where we have been,

It’s looking ever forward,

To another year and ten.

It’s searching all the byways,

Never should you refrain,

For if you want to live your life,

You gotta drive the train!

OK…..got a good question for the Import/Tuner crowd out there…….here goes……I’m considering buying a 1991 Dodge Stealth R/T twin turbo. The guy that has it for sale is offering it a ridiculously low price because it has a thrashed transfer case and also needs the front drive shaft (i’ve already looked at the car and verified that this is the problem) ….I have searched and searched and searched online and locally for a used transfer case, but I can’t find one that is decent shape (i.e. not needing rebuild) for under a grand……HOWEVER, i have locally sourced a 92 mitsubishi galant VR4 Turbo AWD parts car with a blown engine……Now, I know that the dodge stealth R/T TT and mitsubishi 3000gt VR4 were essentially the same car, same engine, drivetrain, etc…but are the drive trains in the stealth R/T TT and galant VR4 AWD the same? similar?………would it be possible to use the transfer case from the galant without modification? or would I have to do some modification/ fabrication? will it even work ??

Hi,
I have been looking for a job for a while now, I dropped my expectations now looking for cleaning position. Strange thing ,I can not even find that. Applied for couple, not been accepted.
May be there is some good engine to search for this type of work.
It is kinda hard.
May be some other interesting suggestions where to look for part-time job, that doesn’t need lots of training so that I can get some luck finding.
Thank you.
That’s a problem I tried to look for that too(cashier),
but all positions happen to be located outside of my area, and I do not have a car yet.

(I didn’t see the movie from the beginning.I saw the film from the half to the end)

As I understood, there were 4 or 5 terrorists wearing blue clothes who were in a train and they had some hostages who they were also passengers in it.Some hostages were threatened and some of them were injured by them.A sent spy or a policeman(I don’t know),went into the train for freeing the hostages and for stopping the terrorists. The spy and the terrorists were “enemies” and they tried to kill each other. They were haunting each other when the spy took a message from his partner via walkie talkie(not sure if it was a walkie talkie) that some commandos are coming to bombard the train. He didn’t manage to free the hostages so he told his partner to take them.As a result, they didn’t shoot/bombard it.He continued searching for the terrorists. He killed some of them but he also got injured. After a while,he got another message of his partner that a train(it was a steam engine)was coming through the different direction and he told him to hurry up freeing the hostages. His partner tried to communicate with the driver of the steam engine in order to alert him but he didn’t answer because he was having the radio played loudly and he didn’t hear it.His partner called the spy again to tell him the bad news. After that,he moved the hostages to the last(probably)wagon and he tried to release that wagon from the whole train but one of the terrorists saw him and they started fighting to death,The spy won but he didn’t kill him and he continued releasing the wagon,He released it and they got saved. The train in which was the terrorist who previously fought with the spy and the steam engine collided. After that, the spy got the hostages out of the wagon.

P.S:If you don’t understand something,just tell me

About five years ago as I was getting off a commuter train in Grand Central Terminal in New York City, I saw a curious train. It had a standard Metro-North engine, but there were only two cars connected to it. The first car was decked out with several offices: leather interior, wooden desks, wall-to-wall carpeting. The second car was more of a bar / reception area. Both cars had the seal of the President of the United States. I was guessing that when Bill and Hillary Clinton were living in Westchester County, New York, that was the train Bill took to go to work in Manhattan. Does anyone know where I can find more about this train or know where I can find pictures of this? I have searched the Internet and I can’t find anything.

My almost three year old son is daft about steam trains. He has a wooden engine and character to which he associates the names Casey Jones and the Cannonball Express. I have tried to find DVDs or similar in the UK of episodes from the V series. Despite hours of searching no luck. Youtube has thrown up a few intro clips but that is about it.
If anyone can direct me to a place where i can get a few episides I’d be forever grateful.

Thanks

My son, after 11 years of living 2000 miles away has finally come home, with his new son..being a single father raising a baby on his own, and can’t find a job..He is talking about moving back. I am deserate to have him stay, I want my son and grandson here. He is skilled in lots of areas, he was a locator for utilities for years, and knows small engine repair. He is a fantastic magician, and was even a cook. He has done framing, painting, and construction. He is 28, and a very responsible person. He got all his training by holding down several jobs at once. So he isn’t jumping from one thing to the next. He is very likable, and funny. Makes everyone smile…you would just have to meet him to see what I mean, but he would give all his jobs his best, especially now that he is raising his son alone. I have helped all I can, but my husband hasn’t had much work lately either, so its hard to help, except for the babysitting and gas money for job searches..Can anyone help me out..Please!
