I’m pretty sure I understand some of the basics. If I’m wrong, please tell me the correct info. I believe that a person can be paid for ads on their personal websites and blogs based on traffic to their site. I’m just wondering how that is initiated? How would a person get started or open "business" for ads? Is there a process or middle-man you have to go through? Any info would be awesome, thanks!!

I have a website, blog, and Podcast. The Blog/Podcast is registered to Feedburner and they ping other sites but there is such a wide spread difference in traffic in website from person to person, people that read certain blogs, and listen to specific Podcasts, that there has to be ways fee and free besides posting on Message Boards, Yahoo Groups, and word of mouth to really make a dent in the market.

I am looking into using Blogspot, and possibly Wordpress, to gain some tangible writing/editing experience. I am hoping to get a job editing for a company online one day, and they often ask for links to see your work. Well, my school advisor said I should look into using Google Adsense to make a bit of money while I’m at it, and drive more traffic to my blogs. But, after reading the information, I’m still a bit confused. I have a few questions that I was hoping someone who has used this successfully can help with…I’m not looking to get rich quick. Rather, I am looking to hopefully earn a bit of extra cash here and there while I’m going to school, and since the economy stinks and I may be laid off soon, I thought this might help ease things a bit. Maybe not, but it’s worth a try, right?

Anyway…my questions:

1. Is there a difference between AdSense and AdWords?

2. Do I need a PayPal account, even though I thought I read that the checks are mailed directly to me?

3. Can I have more than one blog on an existing account, or do I need separate accounts for each, or is that even allowed? I have two blogs that I think are both relevant and useful to readers (and good for if I apply for editing in a journalistic field or in a research field), and one that would be great for editors looking for those with fiction experience. Would I be able to use all three, or would I only be allowed one?

Of course, editing also involves writing, so this is why companies want to see if you have what it takes to edit in a professional manner…and this will also help me gain exposure in my ultimate career goal, which is writing. I’m just not really sure how to go about this in an online manner. I blog, yes…but I’ve never thought of marketing my online writing until now. Can someone help? I know AdSense won’t make me rich, but I also know it’s not a scam…I am just a bit confused as to how the whole thing works.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as the research I’ve done hasn’t answered those questions. Thanks! :)

I recently read a lot about how designers/artists can benefit from blogs on their portfolio websites. Some designers go as far as to claim that having the blog as the MAIN page (directly at the www.example.com as opposed to www.example.com/blog) is the way to go. They say it is the ideal way to improve one’s SEO capabilities.
Is this true? Isn’t the work supposed to be the most important part? I am worried that I would start slacking off and not giving the blog much of my time, but I am also beginning to suspect that blogs increase traffic, especially if they’re on the main page and are well-written. What do you think?

I just opened an account with blogger, and I was wondering? Does the title of your site or URL name define the adds from google adsense? I have added google adsense on it, and the adds didnt seem to match my title… I got a couple of other blogs and didnt seem to have a problem with the adds, except for one this one. So I decided to change the url name, again and again. does it have any effect when you change the name url to your blog ? I realized the adds were not matching so I decided to change my url name? … blogger does let you change it, but I was wondering if it ruins anything? I’m also trying to find out where can I get more free layout templates, and learn how to work with my header. I wanna personalize it more but I dont know how to do it. any anwers will help, thanks.

I want to traffic (or whatever you call it) my blog. But as I am computer illiterate I haven’t a clue really what to do. I’ve done the whole add content sha-bang on MyYahoo etc. But when I enter in my blogs url it tells me it’s invalid.. but I don’t understand it is valid?! Someone please help me!

I can’t do press releases yet because the site is not 100% complete. However, I want to start promoting my site to some gaming blogs and sites because I need volunteers to help out with the site and I want to start creating buzz and hyping up the launch of the site.

My site is an MMO Gaming Portal so I’m wanting to market the site on MMO-related sites. Not sure if I should promote it on other gaming portals because that would look like I am intruding on their community and stealing their traffic.

Is there a way to find out the popularity of a certain blog? Youtube has "subscribers". Is there somewhere to go where you can search for the number of "follower" or "hits" a certain blog gets? How can you find out if a certain blog is getting lots of traffic or not? I do not mean for my own blog, but lets say I have a list of 10 blogs. I want to find out which one is the most popular among them and how popular they are.

Hello I have recently started up a website which can be simply described as a new take on blogging which encourages more thought provoking discussions than traditional "journal type" blogs.

After two weeks, I have about 50 registered users, with only about 20 returning regularly.
